A Greener Fuel

LPG is a better option for the local environment than many other energy solutions.

The combustion of LPG has almost no harmful impact on the environment or on human health, making it a clean low carbon alternative to other fossil fuels. It burns completely, efficiently and emits significantly less pollutants than most conventional fuels. LPG has a lower carbon to hydrogen ratio than most other hydrocarbons, which means it generates lower amounts of carbon dioxide per amount of heat produced.

According to the UN International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), LPG is not a greenhouse gas, meaning it is assigned a global warming potential (GWP) factor of zero. It is the cleanest off-mains fossil fuel available, and produces 29% less CO2 emissions than Gas Oil, and 154% less than electricity.

The table below demonstrates how LPG compares favourably against all the available off-mains fossil fuels. (Source: Atlantic Consulting)

% CO2 emissions of fossil fuels compared against LPG

  • + 29%Gas oil
  • + 154%Electricity
  • + 14%Kerosene
  • + 31%Heavy Fuel Oil
  • + 46%Smokeless Fuel
