The remainder comes as a by-product from oil refining. LPG is transported under light pressure in liquid form, and is stored either in steel, lightweight cylinders, or in bulk tanks.
Already, millions of people use LPG worldwide for a very wide range of applications. In homes, restaurants, hotels, and hospitals LPG is used for cooking, heating and hot water. In business and industry, it is used for heating, steam production and also fork lift truck operation. Other uses include transportation as a road fuel, in farming for crop drying and poultry rearing, for power generation, and for recreational purposes such as for barbeques, camper vans and boats. LPG is further used as a propellant for aerosols.
LPG can be easily transported, stored and used virtually anywhere and has lower greenhouse gas emissions than petrol, diesel, and electricity, on an energy-equivalent basis. Essentially, LPG plays a pivotal role in the transition towards a more secure, sustainable and competitive energy model.
